What Messagebird is looking for in applicants

Transform the communications world!

We’re proud (and excited!) to be transforming the global communications landscape through our Omnichannel Platform-as-a-Service (OPaaS).

Senior Software Engineer - MessageBird Toky (PHP) | Remotely from LATAM

Part of being the best call center solution is making sure our call environment runs like clockwork. Our product team consists of 2 squads. As Senior Backend Developer you would become part of the squad  responsible for product APIs and microservices that process data, integrate with external systems and leverage different AWS services (S3, RDS, ElasticSearch, Redshift, etc) for better data accessibility and internal communication between themselves. The squad is also responsible for core backend libraries and services used throughout the whole SaaS solution. Most backend services are developed in PHP but some of them are in Python, thus this would be a great opportunity for you to also learn Python in practice and use it to create new, fast and reliable services.

Some services we build live inside the Docker container, thus Docker is a desirable tool for a backend developer at Toky. As such, we are looking for someone with an exceptional feel for software development and PHP and keen to learn Python. Someone who is eager to work using a fresh tech stack, open for innovation and gets the energy from solving business problems at scale with technology. We are offering you the opportunity to play a key part in a company that is truly innovating customer interaction.

What You’ll Do

  • Help design and build a performant, scalable and fault-tolerant communication platform.
  • Team up with engineers to solve system design and implementation problems (and get a thrill out of every triumph!).
  • Work with and enable engineers from other teams who interact with the platform.
  • Problem-solve issues based on business/customer need and impact, working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Refactor legacy parts of the system to sustain team and company growth.
  • Teach others: One of the most meaningful tasks of a Senior Engineer is improving the knowledge level of the team members.
  • You will flourish working in a hyper-growth environment where the next project is ready to be picked up.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 5 years of relevant software development experience building and designing scalable, highly-available distributed systems.
  • Strong knowledge and strong programming skills in PHP.
  • Experience with Slim framework will be a plus.
  • Experience with Python will be a plus.
  • Experience in building integrations with enterprise systems using REST.
  • Strong experience working with relational and non-relational data stores (like MySQL, Elasticsearch & Redis).
  • Experience with high-throughput relational database deployments. (good to have)
  • Experience with Docker. (good to have)
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of development patterns, software architectures and design patterns (TDD, Event-Driven, SOLID, Hexagonal, DDD).
  • Knowledge of (cloud) infrastructure principles (load balancing, high availability, containerized services, database configurations) is a bonus.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
