What Notion is looking for in applicants

About Us:

We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like Pixar, Mitsubishi, Figma, Plaid, Match Group, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

About The Role:

Millions of people use Notion — and this number is increasing every day. Our users depend on us to deliver a consistent and trustworthy experience, and we value this more than anything. We want to keep building on that trust, while also continuing to amaze our users with the tools they can build in Notion. This is where you come in — partnering with teams across the organization to envision, plan and build Notion's Privacy posture.

What You'll Achieve:

  • Build, mature, and scale Privacy programs and processes that support global privacy and data protection programs based on industry best practices
  • Have experience with other privacy guidance, regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks and familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, the E-Privacy Directive and sub-processor
  • Set up strategic direction for legal guidance and regulatory requirements and reporting metrics
  • Oversee and develop privacy awareness and training resources while partnering closely with privacy counsel to develop a training program
  • Utilize project management and communication skills to help define scope, requirements, analyze data, and develop strategic recommendations for program and operational execution
  • Track, remediate and report on risks and oversee risk reduction within the risk management system

Skills You'll Need to Bring:

  • Privacy Operations Expertise: You are able to drive greater consistency of process, practices and execution across company-wide privacy projects and work-streams.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about business impact and prioritize projects accordingly — you understand the risks and balance the right security investments with the right bottom line outcomes.
  • Empathetic communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining compliance requirements in writing or brainstorming in real time. When building consensus, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.
  • Team player: For you, work isn't a solo endeavor. You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same.
  • Takes Initiative: You have a track record of taking initiative, having the ability to work independently and handle multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Nice to Haves:

  • You are comfortable with technology and relevant technology terms.
  • You have been a partner to sales teams, in customer-facing discussions, and can talk to customers about our privacy posture confidently.
  • You possibly have experience with privacy-related technology solutions (i.e., OneTrust)
  • Maybe you have a Computer Science degree and/or Law Degree
  • You have a CIPP, CIPT or CIPM
  • Notion experience

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Notion.
